Dressage

Introduction

Dressage (pronounced " " ) , derived from the French word "dresser" meaning "to train", dates back to the Renaissance Era, when it gained recognition as a good training method for European cavalries. This competition tests the obedience and agility of the horse and its coordination with its rider. The rider and horse combination is required to perform a series of carefully designed, graceful movements, and as a result, Dressage is often called "equestrian ballet".

Rules

The rider and the horse are required to perform three rounds of competition in a 20m x 60m flat arena:

- The first two rounds are movements set by the F?d?ration Equestre Internationale (FEI)

- The last round is freestyle-to-music - the rider and the horse will freely interpret self-choreographed movements to the music of their choice.

Judging

- The judges will give a mark on the quality of each movement of the combination. The maximum mark for each movement is 10.

- The winner is the one with the highest total marks for the whole competition.

50 athletes were initially expected to compete in Dressage in 2008. 49 athletes from 11 nations are officially entered after horse inspection.

เมื่อ กล่าวถึงกีฬาประเภทนี้ อยากให้ผู้อ่านลองนึกภาพ การขี่ม้าที่ผู้ขี่แต่งกายสวย ๆใส่ชุดทักซิโด้, หมวกทรงสูง ( Top Hat ) ตลอดจนมีการถักเปียที่ขนแผงคอม้าและที่หางเป็นต้น ผู้แข่งขันจะบังคับม้าของตนปฏิบัติตามคำสั่งที่กรรมการได้แจกจ่ายไปไว้ ก่อนล่วงหน้า ยกตัวอย่างเช่น การเปลี่ยนฝีเท้าม้าในการวิ่งตามจุดบังคับต่างๆ รวมถึงลักษณะการย่างก้าวของม้า ซึ่งใครบังคับม้าของตนได้อย่างสวยงาม แต่ละท่าทางได้เข้าตากรรมการมากกว่ากัน คนนั้นก็จะเป็นผู้ชนะ เฉกเช่นเดียวกับ กีฬายิมนาสติก ประเภท Floor Exercise ซึ่งบางครั้งไม่ง่ายนักที่จะเดาใจกรรมการได้ว่าใครจะเป็นผู้ชนะ สำหรับกีฬาประเภทนี้เรา ๆ ในส่วนของคนดู คงได้แต่เอาใจช่วยนักกีฬาและม้าที่เราชื่นชอบ เท่านั้นแหละครับ ส่วนการตัดสินแพ้ชนะ ปล่อยให้เป็นเรื่องของกรรมการเขาดีกว่า เพราะถ้าผลคะแนนออกมาไม่ตรงกับใจเราจะเกิดกรณี “ ม้าแพ้คนไม่แพ้ ” ขึ้นม้าอีก ซึ่งมีให้เห็นกันบ่อยในบ้านเรา
